I think it has surprised alot of people.  It's a seriously good record.

An album of the year, though?

Most of the songs (apart from This I Love) I've heard just sound like a second-rate Alice in Chains......

I really like Alice In Chains and that is definitely not true.

Antidotes by Foals just shades it for me, from Waited Up Til It Was Light by Johnny Foreigner.  Honourable mentions for Hot Chip, The Last Shadow Puppets, Black Kids, Hadouken! and probably TV On The Radio, although I've not listened to that enough yet.

"Waited Up Til It Was Light" by Johnny Foreigner. - It is really amazing and exciting, and smart and creative, I think.

Come on, have some respect for Joel, he can honestly say which music he likes, no matter if it's mainly loved by teenage stains, getting a bad press reputation or completely awful.

I note you've not suggested anything...

And y'know, some people aren't scared to like music other people like too.

Yeah, maybe an emoticon would've fixed the tone of that message; I was sticking up for you then realised I could add a cheap punchline.

(and I'll suggest later: I've only heard a few but can't decide which of the few are best)

Music I've liked this year has generally come out at least a hundred years ago.  Sad

Didn't say I didn't respect his opinion, I'm just surprised anyone likes such a derivative band.  As for 'teenage stains', I can't really comment about that, all I know about that band and that album is they caned it at work for ages and it made me wanna stick knitting needles in my ears.

My top 5, copied from another forum:

1. Flying Lotus - Los Angeles
2. 2562 - Aerial
3. The Bug - London Zoo
4. Aidan Baker & Tim Hecker - Fantasma Parastasie
5. The Gaslamp Killer - I Spit On Your Grave

Rock music has, for the most part, been seriously dull this year. British indie seems to be descending into twee hell, too.

Got Cease to Begin by Band of Horses for Christmas and that's top of the pile for me, a majestic bit of work.  Just shades it over the Gutter Twins, I think.  Good to see SubPop still delivering the goods after all these years.
