Vintage Steven Gerrard tonight, by the way - 0-0 in the last minute of injury time, so he runs into his opponent in the box and appeals for a penalty. Wonder if that'll be picked up on in tomorrow's papers.

During the Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate trial of 2000/2001, the father of Sarfraz Najeib had a 2 page interview in the central pages of the Daily Mirror.  The judge stopped the trial, dismissed the jury and set a date for a retrial, accusing him and the paper of attempting to influence the decision of a legal matter.

The only difference with what the perpetual victims are doing here is that the case isn't being played out in a British court, but it's still monumentally stupid.

I was beginning to think Spurs could win the League Cup....perhaps not now, especially as Man U are going through.

They're doing nothing. Barwick's not gone yet, remember.

The dippers aren't remotely interested in seeing justice done - if that Sankey really is responsible, why haven't they made him face trial? Surely there are people in Liverpool who could 'persuade' him. That confession is b*ll*cks, he only made it because he knew he wouldn't have to face the music. It's hilarious reading though, I'll have to find a link to it.

It's not even about Shields, really. It's all about attention-seeking, and making them look like the Bestest Fans in the World Ever, La (TM).

I have it on good authority that Sankey was threatened into confessing, and was told that he wouldn't be extradited so he went forward with it, then recanted when he realised he'd have to face trial. The same authority also tells me that Sankey is an Everton fan who wasn't in Bulgaria at the time. Its all a big pile of sh*t, who the f*ck honestly believes he was in bed at the time!? But it'd be funny as f*ck if he served his full sentence and then found out he was innocent. The f*cking horrible scouse rat.

He's done quite well to keep it low key I think because there was speculation months ago about it and he just kept quiet.

I'm not surprised, I wouldn't want to work in Sunderland either.

So it was Everton, then? They never cease to amaze me. Someone else is always to blame.

But yeah, who'd be tucked up in bed at midnight after their team had just scabbed the European Cup? And then there's all the stories of people Shields had never met going into his room at 4am to borrow a comb, or whatever, and seeing him fast asleep.

Footie ace 'gang sex assault' in showers

By JOHN TROUP

A FOOTBALL League club is reeling after four youth side players were quizzed by police over claims of a sex attack on a team-mate.

The lad — at a Coca-Cola League One club which cannot be named for legal reasons — was allegedly assaulted with an object in showers when horseplay got out of hand.

The 17-year-old went to hospital on Tuesday afternoon, and medical staff tipped off police. Another patient told The Sun: “The lad was in a lot of distress and was hobbling as he came into casualty.

“He told nurses he had been attacked by a group of team-mates in the showers. It sounded absolutely horrific. It wasn’t long before police came down and he was asked to go through what had happened again.

“He was in a right state. He was constantly in tears and was in a great deal of distress and embarrassment. I really felt for him.”

The four players were arrested. Last night three were released on police bail until next month. The fourth was freed and told he would not face charges.

The club said in a statement: “We are aware there has been an alleged incident. We will assist and communicate with the relevant authorities.”

Word going around is that it's Oldham.
