Also,
Boxcutter > Burial.
Boxcutter are ace, they're on Mike Paradinas' label Planet-Mu, aren't they?
Not heard any Burial, are they of a similar ilk then?

I hope some day, for some reason, David Duchovny is investigated by the FBI. Because that would make a great story.

He (Barry Lynn, best thing to ever come out of Lurgan) is indeed on Planet Mu. I can't recommend his 'Glyphic' album enough, I really think you'd go for it. Burial on the other hand is a darling of the music press, his latest album got rave reviews, even though I personally got a little bored of it. I prefer the rougher edged sound, but it's horses/courses.

Glyphic is very good, yeah. Not sure I prefer it to either Burial album but it's still one of the best dubstep albums I've heard. On a vaguely dubstep tip, This Too Shall Pass by Breakage is also worth a listen. It's probably more d'n'b than dubstep but the first disc of that album brings the percussive heat.

It is a really good album, especially coming after hail to the thief. Though I guess they'd probably be the band that would benefit the least from winning.
And they'd probably make some incredibly hackneyed statement with the winnings cheque and disagreeing with American foreign policy and such. Spare us.
Spare us indeed, Radiohead do my f*cking box in.

I'm waiting on Glyphic and Oneirc to arrive after hearing a lot of tracks individually and it does sound like I'm going to really enjoy them. Tracks like 'Bug Octet' are just utterly amazing examples of intricate, steppy breaks but I'm not 100% sure about this new dubstep thing that's emerging/just came to my attention; from what I can tell it seems to just be slow, dubby breaks...not that that's a criticism as from what I've heard a lot of it's very good (check out 'Distance') but there's also a lot of terribly monotonous, boring stuff out there that's just a slow hip-hop beat with heavy bass. Come to think of it though, I guess breaks is just slow drum 'n' bass when you think about it, so I'm not really sure what my point is...
Anyway, I haven't heard one single album on this year's list, not even Radiohead or Burial's, which hammers home the point of me being far too insular and narrow-minded when it comes to music at the moment, I need to branch out and listen to some different stuff.

There you go, Alex San. Also, note the gig in Manc on Dec 12th.

Thanks, Sir Scott of Scottland.
Not a bad track too, and different enough to fulfill my earlier contractual obligation to listen to something a bit different, even if it is still Squarepusher.

The Bug's London Zoo album also comes highly recommended. More aggressive and dancehall-orientated than your usual dubstep fodder and all the better for it.

As I might have said, I thought they deserved it for Asleep In The Back. The Seldom Seen Kid is far from their best album, but then it probably couldn't have gone to nicer guys.

I've just looked them up on youtube, they seem pretty good on first listen. The one I just listened to sounded a bit like radiohead, which is no bad thing.

They've gone a little bit too Coldplay recently, but on the earlier records they have a bit more dirty bass and offbeat rhythms. Guy Garvey has one of the best voices in the country, and can make me cry on the right songs.
If youre downloading, I recommend Red, Newborn, and if you like them epic, One Day Like This off the new album.

Yeah he does have a pretty amazing voice.
So basically I've gone from not having an opinion to thinking they might have deserved it, though not really having heard any of the other nominees I can't be sure.
They definitely deserve it more than last years winners though, f*cking klaxons.
Edited:
Actually I did have an opinion! I'd really liked to have seen Gruff Rhys win it!
