That makes no sense, your driving instructor and your examiner have nothing to do with each other.

I think she was pointed out how having an instructor decide when you were ready, rather than putting people in an exam situation, wouldn't necessary work

I had the most patient instructor ever. Independent. And wouldnt let me book even my theory until he knew i was ready.

THing is though, most instructors do anyway, its usually them that tell you to go for your exam.. Sure, some people do it off their own backs, but I'd imagine the majority are taking their instructors recommendations.

Suffice to say, any who did rip people off wouldn't remain in business long, since most of them tend to be booked by word of mouth. (After havihng searched online, I doubt the majority don't get bookings from their websites, since they are utter dogsh*te in 90% of the cases.)

Unless you're me, in which case my first driving instructor was my examiner twice.

i've never bothered with a serious crack at driving. i took about 11 lessons when i was 17 and decided it wasn't something that i wanted to do at that point in life. i'll have a go next summer, possibly. besides, motorbikes are infinitely superior for someone who doesn't need to carry anything about (if i go to the shops, i walk. if i go to work, i get the bus/train to avoid parking costs).

i've driven cars on private land since, albeit it very slowly, just to get the basics rooted in my head.

I doubt highly you would pass first time, it's f*cking hard. The list of criteria you have to meet is f*cking ridiculous. After phaillllling, you would probably think differently. Motorbikes are cool though, bloke's Dad has two, they're preeeettty.

Yeah, hence not fair to failers to ban them from being able to try again, as they're only allowed to pass a certain amount of people per day anyway and you could just be unlucky and fail all three times despite doing f all wrong.

Yup. The first time pass rate is only 17% anyway, and the overall pass rate is something like 48%. They must be raking it in on failed tests, seeing as they're £56 a pop...

Yeah plus the two hours you have to pay your instructor for practise before the test and hire of the car for the test. Expensive business. I deserve my license just for the fact it cost me over £200 to get it (excluding 4 years of driving lessons).
