Best end fight scene

Best end fights? What about Biao Yuen Vs Ching-Ying Lan in Magnificent Butcher, Kar-Yan Leung Vs Chang Li in The Victim or Sammo Hung Vs Lau Kar Wing in Odd Couple, just for starters? Gav, Chatham

Weird Logo

This has been bugging me now since I started reading Zine. What on earth is that picture in the top right-hand corner?

It's either a spider being squashed, some geezer blowing a whistle or a person being strangled, hence the tongue sticking out.

However, these are all just guesses. WLW, what is it?

Anime Buddy

You must be a newbie. Everyone else knows.

Excited about 007?

I agree that The Last Shadow Puppets should have done the James Bond theme. It's the only thing I am looking forward to seeing on October 31. Have booked my tickets already. Can't wait. Bond is nearly back. Josie, London

Best end-fight? Any film by Seasonal is a winner, but among their gems I'd have to say King of The Kickboxers nails it. "This is for my brother!" John, York

Magic Pen

I have a magic pen.

This magic pen is a bright green Biro with a maze built in that writes in blue ink. It seems to be very the opposite s*x.

Now I know Spiky Stuy's secret, he has a magic pen too!

The Wonky Gnome

Tip: never dip your nib in the office ink.

Chaplin's weepie

Catch the end of Chaplin's City Lights where he realises the blind girl he loves can now see, if you want a good cry. Gets me every time. Sean, Welling

The scene in Stand By Me where River Phoenix fades out of the picture is unbearably moving, especially in light of what happened to that magnificent young actor. Paul Wilcox, Sheffield

Adverts

I don't know if any of you have seen the Channel 4 adverts asking "celebrities" various nosy questions. Well I've decided to answer a few of them, to see if anyone actually cares.

Favourite stuff.

Devil May Care

Why would the Bond producers say that Devil May Care couldn't be turned into a screenplay? Because it is based in the '60s: Casino Royale. It was Fleming's novel of the '50s and it was changed for the film. The producers should look at the novels of Raymond Benson for a 007 film. Colin Lloyd, Lancs

For weird check out Vampyr, The Orphic Trilogy (Cocteau) and the grandaddy of weird, Un Chien Andalou from 1929. adam, Sunderland

Late Reply

Yes, Insomniac Tapeworm. I've noticed the distinct lack of shirtness in music videos too.

And let's face it, no one wants to see that much of Fred Durst.

Also, it seems poor Justin Hawkins has to make "clothes" from old curtains. Yes, something should be done about this.

dracula an allegory

The original dracula novel is an allegory about the love of money being the root of all evil. Harker the estate agent brings disaster on those he loves through his greed, this being symbolised by the count shedding gold coins when pierced.

The puerile "Love interest" and cheap gore-fest by producers/ directors is a distortion, but predictable. They are without a moral compass, and catering for a shallow audience. J Gear, Devon

Teletext

Sometimes my Teletext goes screwy, and the Goss page invades Zine. Here's what the end result looks like.

Hot off the press! Penguins have been signed up to do a gig at Topper's mansion in America. Celebrities such as Peter Andre are trying to take over the world! Gay Giraffe is set to top the charts!

Oh, the sheer comic value.

apologetic breadstick

If only it were true. I'd look great on CD:UK.

A message to Ricky

Ricky Gervais is one of the unfunniest comedians on TV. I love The Simpsons but his episode was rubbish! Stay in the USA, we don't want you. Ian, Wolverhampton

At last somebody has given The Great Ecstacy of Robert Carmichael a mention. The best Brit flick since Alan Clark left us. Si, Sheffield

The Art of Being Wrong

"Heaven and earth were all created in an instant, on October 23, 3004 BC, at nine in the morning." Dr John Lightfoot, vice-chancellor of Cambridge University, just before Charles Darwin published his book.

"Animals, which move, have limbs and muscles. The Earth does not have limbs and muscles, therefore it does not move." Scipio Chiaramonti

A Voider recently asked which of the big albums would flop this autumn and predicted Razorlight. I've never liked Razorlight, but their performance of Wire To Wire on Jonathan Ross was sublime. Beautifully performed, and better than the recorded version. Aaron O'Neill

The new Travis album Ode To J Smith is amazing. I can't believe it didn't do better in the chart. I urge anyone and everyone to buy it. Beth Rowlands

Short Leg And Sides

Wouldn't it be good if, as with hair, you could have your legs cut when they got a bit long.

"Yes, please, just take a little off the ankle and maybe a tad off the thigh."

I imagine scissors would not be an adequate tool for the job. I recommend a rusty pelican or maybe an array of wasps.

Stuttercut

No, no, no!!! I like my long, spotty limbs.

People seem unaware that the finest punk bands were American. Husker Du, Bad Brains, Minutemen, Minor Threat. All made landmark albums and, what's more, in the '80s. The British punk scene was, for the most part, over-hyped and uninspired. Kevin Kavanagh

Words can't express how excited I am at seeing Far in London soon. I've waited nine years for this, as I never got the chance first time round. It's shocking how overlooked they are. PG Superman

Jimmy: Holy sh*t everything's Barry.
Steve-Dave: Everything's better!
Puffalump: Barrier
Steve-Dave: The Barryest it's ever been
Jimmy: I can't wait for more "Important Barry and changes"
Steve-Dave: Well there will be some Barry and changes coming soon, because we need more donations. It no longer just takes £10 a year to help Barry survive
Steve-Dave: It takes like... £13
Steve-Dave: Barry has to walk 5 metres to his car every day... just to go to work and earn money for DVDs and comic books
Steve-Dave: His eyesight is so bad... that he has to wear glasses. Stylish rimless glasses which cost €250
Steve-Dave: His living space is so cramped... that h had to put his workout bench in the garage meaning he doesn't really use it any more
Steve-Dave: But for just €13 a year... You can help Barry afford a DVD that he heard was good but has been out for a while so it's not as expensive as new DVDs
Steve-Dave: Please... Give generously... And help save this poor man's DVD shelf from not being completely full because it just looks weird when it's nearly full. I mean, when it's half full, that's fine. But when there's only a few gaps left... it just looks kinda sad.... y'know
Steve-Dave: Thank you
Rayanne Graff: It scares me when people refer to themselves in the third person.
Steve-Dave: It scares Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. too
Steve-Dave: Like my Grandfather, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII Esq. always said: "Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq. gets scared when people refer to themselves in the third person, and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq. promises to never do that"
Steve-Dave: And like my twin brother, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. (or Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. for short) says: "Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. doesn't like when people refer to themselves in the third person. You and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. must have gotten that from our grandfather, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq."
Rayanne Graff: You nerds crack me up.
Steve-Dave: Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. all try our best
Rayanne Graff: ... in the pants department.
