Where's Wally?

I tried to find him, but I got distracted by a real life Wally who walked past my window.

He had a stripy jumper and a bag with Wally woz ere scrawled on in blue marker pen.

Afterwards I was going to search for Wally again, but decided to just have a bath instead.
Topper

Good. He was on the other side of the shower curtain.

University Challenge

When I'm bored, I sometimes watch University Challenge. On Monday, I was playing solitaire and half-listening to the show when Jeremy Paxman announced: "Your next set of questions is on the subject of Metallica."

I was intrigued that a quiz usually asking questions about classical composers and opera was now asking about groups of Metallica. "Which metal has the boiling point of..." I lost interest again.
The One With The Mighty Antlers

It was never gonna be the Metallica though, was it?

If Ziners Were

Please stop writing these messages. The majority of us want Ziners to be themselves, not songs or TV characters, so please stop comparing us to stuff.

I say us in the hope that some magnificent Ziner will include me in a letter.
Magic Munky

If it's funny, write it. You'll all be included then.

The mysterious power of Telekinesis

Jo is absolutely right about my response to Telekinesis- I checked them out after reading them on PS and I'm in love. I will indeed be racing out to buy their new album, but only after I've got my ticket to see The Lemonheads in Manchester. The Doc

On the subject of great cover versions, my favourite is Biffy Clyro's take on Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out, which was aired on Radio 1's Live Lounge around 2005. Spam

So how do gay giraffes have longer... no, forget I asked.

Scooter

Who else would write songs so bad that they resort to da instead of the? And praising the ice cream man. It's just wrong. And what's up with your name, HP? Are you some sort of sauce? Just go home.

Or back to B*ckch*t where you belong with your townie friends.
The Tine Travelling Nerd Who Is Afraid of The Dark

It sounds as if Scooter have tooted a few hirns of debate. Marvellous.

Hocus Pocus

I have heard this song and I absolutely love it.

It's by Focus and is called Hocus Pocus. It's so cool. It has guitars, drums, whistling and accordions and yodelling.

Every time I hear it I just jump up and dance madly. Radio 1 are mean and won't play it. Grrr.
Banana Split

I wonder why they don't have it on their playlist, I really do.

Bringing it all back home for Christmas

News that Bob Dylan is knocking out a Christmas album fills me with dread. Off the back of his three great recent albums, the thought of Dylan in a turgid video, in a white bushy beard and Santa outfit, miming Little Town of Bethlehem is enough to make me weep. What's next? Dylan sings Doonican? Steve Vallely

Earls: I'd love Dylan to cover Last Christmas, as it's surprisingly easy to imagine how he'd sing that.

OK, examine your CV very carefully. Now, do you really have to ask?

It's your funeral for missing the Fire

The Voider who is currently using Neon Bible by Arcade Fire as a coaster has certainly stumbled across the best use for that album. If, however, Big T had spent a couple more quid on their Funeral album, he wouldn't have been disappointed.

I've just been watching Frank Zappa on DVD, a true genius whose like we'll probably never see again. It's nice to see his kids keep his legacy alive with the Zappa plays Zappa gigs. S Oldhippy

The Goonies

Who agrees that The Goonies was one of the best pieces of cinema ever created? The characters are fabulous, the plot enthralling and Sloth just reminds me of the neds in my town.

My favourite was Chunk. The gluttony he displays is utterly endearing.

The names One-Eyed Willie and Chester Copperpot will be etched into my mind until the day I die.
I Miss The Comfort In Being Sad

A classic indeed, and One-Eyed Willie. A very scary beast.

Snow Patrol's Beefheart inspiration

When I read that Snow Patrol have put Captain Beefheart's Observatory Crest on their Bluejeans And Moonbeams album and wound up my creaky old turntable. Bliss. Is the album available on CD? Mondo

The song at the end of Top Gear that Elf was asking about was appropriately enough, An Ending by Brian Eno from his reliably excellent album Apollo. I'd recommend it to Elf. Phil Greaves

The Stranger

I saw a woman who was at least as tall as a window ledge and she was probably my age many years ago.

She was dressed entirely in clothes, and had nothing on her feet except a pair of socks and two shoes.

And then she spoke in a voice that distinctly reminded me of her own. It's not something you see every day.
The Lightning Lady

Wow! Did she have a barnet made specially from her own hair too?

Brown's heart of Stone

Ian Brown refusing to record a song written for him by John Squire on his kids' wishes is a typically graceless move by someone who is a world record holder in bearing a grudge.

I've read plenty of interviews where he's still bitter at Squire for quitting The Stone Roses. That's his prerogative, but he really shouldn't try blaming his kids for his refusal to accept what sounds like an enormous olive branch. Buffy Sainte Alban

Whatever happened to the Zine anthem debate? Well, here are my selections anyway.

1 Blur: Song 2
2 Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit
3 S*x Pistols: Pretty Vacant

Great choices, hey WLW?
Infernal Feline

I think we eventually decided Song 2 was the theme, didn't we?

Jimmy: Holy sh*t everything's Barry.
Steve-Dave: Everything's better!
Puffalump: Barrier
Steve-Dave: The Barryest it's ever been
Jimmy: I can't wait for more "Important Barry and changes"
Steve-Dave: Well there will be some Barry and changes coming soon, because we need more donations. It no longer just takes £10 a year to help Barry survive
Steve-Dave: It takes like... £13
Steve-Dave: Barry has to walk 5 metres to his car every day... just to go to work and earn money for DVDs and comic books
Steve-Dave: His eyesight is so bad... that he has to wear glasses. Stylish rimless glasses which cost €250
Steve-Dave: His living space is so cramped... that h had to put his workout bench in the garage meaning he doesn't really use it any more
Steve-Dave: But for just €13 a year... You can help Barry afford a DVD that he heard was good but has been out for a while so it's not as expensive as new DVDs
Steve-Dave: Please... Give generously... And help save this poor man's DVD shelf from not being completely full because it just looks weird when it's nearly full. I mean, when it's half full, that's fine. But when there's only a few gaps left... it just looks kinda sad.... y'know
Steve-Dave: Thank you
Rayanne Graff: It scares me when people refer to themselves in the third person.
Steve-Dave: It scares Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. too
Steve-Dave: Like my Grandfather, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII Esq. always said: "Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq. gets scared when people refer to themselves in the third person, and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq. promises to never do that"
Steve-Dave: And like my twin brother, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. (or Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. for short) says: "Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. doesn't like when people refer to themselves in the third person. You and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. must have gotten that from our grandfather, Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq."
Rayanne Graff: You nerds crack me up.
Steve-Dave: Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XII esq., Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV.5 esq. and Professor Barrington Cornelius Smashathing XIV esq. all try our best
Rayanne Graff: ... in the pants department.
