Out Come the Wolves was one of the cornerstone albums of my youth. Was spinning it last night with John and singing along to every single word. It's pop music, really. Seen this lot back in 98 and it was one of the most brutal pits ever.

This has been my favourite song in the world since the very first time I heard it. Having this played at my wedding. Probably at my funeral an all.

Completely fixated with this song at the moment. Makes me want to get high.

I was friendly with this girl
Who insisted on touching my face
She told outrageous stories
I believed them
Till the endings were changing from endings before
She's not touching me anymore

Untogether
I couldn't help her
I got hard
You can try your life
You can't save the unsavably untogether

I was shipwrecked with this frog
Who was endlessly testing my faith
He made out outrageous demands
I ignored him
Till I stepped on my boat
Freedom surfed into shore
He's not touching me anymore

Untogether
I couldn't help him
I got hard
You can try your life
You can't change the unchangably untogether

Now the birdnest keeps me turning and straining to see
We threw outrageous parties
We were golden
Now the bird keeps her distance
And I keep my space
Sometimes there's no poison, like a dream

Untogether
I couldn't help her
It got hard
You can dry your eyes
You can't hold the unpossibly untogether

Am a firm believer that Hips and Makers is still her best solo record, and that's my favourite song off it by a mile. Love it.

I'm currently fixated with Three Years by a 90s band called Barefoot Contessa, but they're so little-known that I can't find an MP3 or a vid of it anywhere to show you.

First time I ever heard this band I was about fifteen and mark Radcliffe played one of their singles; this was back in the golden days of Radio 1 when you'd have the Evening Session with Steve n Jo, then mark n Lard, then Peel. I only heard the song once but loved it and always remembered the name of the band. Some ten or eleven years later, when I finally got online, I managed to track down their first album, and it's been a favourite ever since.

has transpired in recent times that thet recorded a lot more than I thought so have bought a further two albums this week. This is off their second, from 1996. It's sparse as f*ck, just guitar and vocals for the most part, loads of reverb, plaintive strumming, beautiful melodies and a palpable sense of lingering loss permeating every single note. F*cking wonderful. If anyone's imnterested, hit me up with a PM and I'll send you some files, just like in the old days when I first darkened VRs door.

Loving this trend of taking out the backing tracks to make it sound like singers are singing a capella. My favourite atm:

My new favourite band.

This is the b-side of the single. Have spent a couple of nights in the last week just spinning the 7" over and over and over again. F*cking love this, makes me feel like a horny teenager again.

Unfortunately the Beeb have scuppered them already by declaring them to be 'the future of rock'. They're clearly not - Peel played bands like this every night for years - but who gives a f*ck about all that? Really looking forward to getting the album when it comes out in July.

I adore this band and wanted to share some. Got five albums worth of theirs, but unfortunately this album is the only one that exists on YouTube, hence why I've posted this one. I do love this song, but nowhere near as much as some of their others.

I've got a bootleg of this whole set that I recorded off the radio at the time. I was fourteen. So funny that all the talk that summer was Blur/Oasis, but Pulp just stole the whole show with Common People and this absolutely wonderful headline set at Glasto.

The soundtrack to the montage of f*cked-up photos from me exended youth

I don't give a f*ck what people say about Courtney Love, Live Through This was easily one of the best rock albums of the 90s.

This guy is from Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. I don't really listen to those bands but this song is from a solo album of acoustic covers of AC/DC b-sides and other little known songs he done a while back, one of my favourite albums.

I've absolute caned that album this last six months, can't get enough of it. Got another one of his in the post. Proper distinctive voice. Really good lyrics too. Any craic live? He's playing the Scala in London on that September tour and any other month I'd've been heading down there to see him with Phil, but it's the day before Liverpool Psych Fest so can't do it. Hoping he'll crop up at the Brud at some point soon.

Ok, yes, I know, it's Anton with his Anglophile head on and it sounds like he wrote it after doing loads of smack and listening to nothing but Wish by the Cure for a month, but if you play this loud enough it's like touching the face of Jesus.
