City Centre is a proper good place to be living

Not wrong, it certainly p*sses on Boothstown. I've made the Lass O'Gowrie my local.

That was my local.

If you'd lived there a year ago, we'd have totally creamed you at the pub quizzes.

I must admit I haven't taken part in any of the pub quizzes, or gone to any of the open mic nights for that matter. I have however carved out a reputation for myself as the local moody renegade, a soldier of fortune who takes no prisoners. In other words, I go in there by myself.

IN the next four weeks I've got

Iron and Wine (solo acoustic)
The Vaselines
Grinderman
Mudhoney

Pretty f*cking swish if I do say so myself. Off to see Gogol Bordello at the end of November as well. Again.

Band of Horses are playing the Academy in January but I've missed the boat on that one, I think. Gonna get meself a ticket for Mogwai in February though, if there's still some left when I get back from Paris.
Whiskey, painkillers and speed will carry me there.....

Seeing these in Manchester later this month, really looking forward to it. By the way, the Mogwai pre-sale sold out pretty quickly but they haven't sold out the Academy on the last two occasions I've seen them. Have you heard the live album yet, Stu? Well worth investing in if you haven't.

Ey up Tom. Not heard that one yet - am f*cking skint at the minute but will doubtless be getting a copy at some point soon. Can't see them selling out the Academy here so should be able to get a ticket if finances permit. Won't be heartbroken if not cos I've seen them loads of times as it is but they're always good value for money.

Sam Beam's gig last night was brilliant. Tiny little theatre, basically a one-man-and-his-guitar show with a little piano, slide guitar or harmonium in places. Played some new songs and they sounded marvellous, did a really good set as well - highlights for me were The Trapeze Swinger and He Lays in the Reinsl. Even the songs off The Shepherd's Dog sounded good without all the gloop swamping them. Happy days.

THis guy provided some spectacular support as well.

You been to the Vaselines yet, Tom? They were absolutely brilliant in Leeds last night, I've never seen the Brudenell so packed. New songs sounded excellent, can't wait to get my hands on the album. Came to my attention that Low are playing there in November as well so I'm thinking a night of stoned slowcore might well be in order..........

Yes, saw them last Thursday at the Deaf Institute. Really enjoyed it actually, some of the banter was very funny and yes, the new songs were pretty impressive. I wasn't really sure what to expect from the newer material but I'll have to give the album a listen at some point.

By the way, Sonic Youth tickets for Manchester and London (Dec 30th and 31st respectively) go on sale tomorrow at 9am.

Trying to blag some freebies for Arcade Fire just before Christmas but not optimistic about the chances of getting any.

Have also registered for Glasto tickets. Quite fancy a bit of madness down at the happy farm, been a good while since me last one.

Failed on both counts.

Off to see MUDHONEY again tomorrow though and it's going to be marvellous. Hopefully won't come out with a crowdsurfing-related concussion this time though.

Rayanne Graff: His name is George. Also, he started Spam.
Rayanne Graff: i spoke to him a couple of times and that was in October of 2009.
the doc: Wow, a proper old head
Rayanne Graff: Yeah, he was the 15th person to join.
satansrubberduck: I didn't directly start Spam. Also the proof of that long since disappeared.
Rayanne Graff: No, it didn't; the Spam spam spam you made in 2002 is on page 105 of the Spam board.
satansrubberduck: Oh. I looked for it years ago and couldn't find it. The colour tags are (thankfully) broken.
satansrubberduck: Odd to think it's been over a decade since I first got involved with 'Zine.
Claire: It's not odd to me since I've just had the exact same conversation with you...
I Cunt Spell: YOU'RE ALL OLD
I Cunt Spell: SO VERY VERY OLD
Captain Stupendo: SRD made an appearence holy moly haven't seen him on here for years
Maeby: JIM!
