I thought the whole point of an e-ink display was that it didn't cause eyestrain because it wasn't pumping out loads of light? It's more like paper, you shine a light on it, rather than light being emitted by it?

Also, sod the copyright thing. a) it's from amazon, and you buy books for it like anything else. and b) really, as if I'd pay for it - cheapskate that I am. Just a bit more convenient than a library.

Try it- this is just what I read when I had to research a project for it.

Yeah, I know you buy books for it, but you can't buy the range of books that you can in print- if you get me?- due to copyright.

PS, much cheaper to join a library

I suspect I've said this on more than one occasion, but that really is one of the best books you're ever likely to read. Sirens of Titan is good too but it ain't in the same league.

Not read a book lately, but I am thinking of getting a Kindle. very strongly thinking of it. now they are only £109, it's just about in impulse buy territory... My main problem is storing loads of books, I got rid of them in my backpack purge... so a digital thing would help.

Anyone got one? or any kind of e-reader? Thoughts, suggestions?
I liked the Sony E-reader I had. My main concern was PDF rendering, which was sh*t. It's much better with the Kindle though.

Picked up a shedload of stuff from the book sale at work for next to nothing. Highlights include a Complete Works of Shakespeare (another one, I've got three or four now), a biography of George Orwell, The Oxford Book of English Verse, a book of John Donne Poems, Selected Poems of John Keats, some Mary Oliver, a biography of Shakespeare and a book about the British chemical warfare experiments on humans at Porton Down. A marvellous haul, I think.

Rayanne Graff: His name is George. Also, he started Spam.
Rayanne Graff: i spoke to him a couple of times and that was in October of 2009.
the doc: Wow, a proper old head
Rayanne Graff: Yeah, he was the 15th person to join.
satansrubberduck: I didn't directly start Spam. Also the proof of that long since disappeared.
Rayanne Graff: No, it didn't; the Spam spam spam you made in 2002 is on page 105 of the Spam board.
satansrubberduck: Oh. I looked for it years ago and couldn't find it. The colour tags are (thankfully) broken.
satansrubberduck: Odd to think it's been over a decade since I first got involved with 'Zine.
Claire: It's not odd to me since I've just had the exact same conversation with you...
