I find that I start reading people's post then getting bored and scanning through the threads to see if anything interesting has been quoted.

but thats always been the same- seriously, i don't see what the problem is on VR. it's always been this way from what I have felt, only a newer generation has taken over- just as it always has.

Bouncebackability - Uppers for when I'm down, downers for when I'm up

Uppers for when I'm down, downers for when I'm up

I don't say as much as I used to on here. I'm on every day, but I rarely see anthing I feel the need to reply to anymore.

I disagree that the average age has gone down. I was 16/17 when I started on here and there seemd to be a bunch of people of the same age who'd been about for seemingly forever then. I think it's just us which have grown up.

I don't think the content of VR has changed too much in all honesty. The people have though, and I never seemed to get to know a lot of the "newbies"...even those with post counts well into their thousands now.

I don't mod on here. I am listed but I do nothing, I guess at the time I felt "family Hour is dead...but I like the power trip". Now I'm totally apathetic about it (i think that's called maturity).

I love nearly all the people I've met on VR over the years, I have officially left 3 times and yet keep coming back for more.

Vr has definitly changed, its less close knit even though its still the closes of all the forums I know. This place was always about the people. Apart from maybe zine (which i no longer the factor itwas) the is very little we have in common as a large group.

Who knows how to improve it, I don't and I am not going to pretend to have the answers. I think VR is just evolving. Or maybe we are just nostalgic about the good old days.

I honestly don't know.

I think people are looking in the wrong place.

THeir is no problem with VR that needs fixing. Think back to when you first joined. The posts you made then are like the ones being made by some of the newer people now. Thing is, in someways the mindset kinda sticks, the whole 'spam' and general silliness in the attitude kinda gets picked up when you type www.vegetablerevolution.com into your browser. But at the same time, all the people who seem to think that VR has a problem have grown up, so while the mindset is there, the attitude isnt. This is why it seems like the site has gone bad of late. Its not, its simply people getting older.

Also, People have looked on the odler threads and often commented about how much better it used to be. How many of those doing this were involved with VR then though? Their are two ways of looking at it, one is though the eyes of an older member, who looks back with tear eyed nostalgia. The other s from the view of a newer member, who see's it all as being new to them and there for still interesting and exciting (also because all the thread has been played out already, they find it funnier, because half the stuff they would have said otherwise has already been said.

I completely apologise for my lack of activity here recently. I am still reading everything and keeping an eye on things but I find it very difficult to write anything when I am unwell (as anyone who has seen my website or has tried to talk to me on MSN will have found out). I really don't know what to suggest - I think a lot of it goes in phases, perhaps partially dicated by the school year and working times and summer holidays and stuff. This is why the debate comes up so regularly and I'm sure a lot of it will sort itself out given time. I really hope it does.

I think part of the fact VR seems sort of 'slower' right now is going to be down to exams, I mean I know I'm here now, but I should be revising....

And I know that I'm one of the people guitly of 'lurking' around VR, I think that's mainly because I don't really want to post something if I don't have something I feel I can say. Mind you, I don't really now, I just feel like I should say something.

Whoever mentioned the MSN thing did have a really good point though, the people I know I like are on my MSN list, and yes, I know I'd probably like a lot more people but I find it hard to identify with them because of the cliques, and so I scuttle back to what I already know and build taller walls.

I loved the bitching and backstabbing and people falling out, and I miss that. It made thing's seem more 'real' in a way, now when everyone's being nice to everyone it does get a bit boring. I think the most actively I've ever posted was when I fell out with someone (but can't remember who it was) over the right way to celebrate christmas (of all things!).

what VR needs might well be irritating people, that the rest of us can unite in hatred of? start up some good fights, create outrage and controversy by slagging off one of VR's most beloved, say something 'terrible'. Maybe we should have let Xphile back, who knows?

EDIT: just saw the fat revolution thing, and feel the need to point out that dispite the paragraph above, that wasn't me!

I totally echo this. I've been browsing VR every day but just haven't had the time to write out lengthy replies.

There has been something of a drop in excitement though. I can remember being on VR all day at school and then racing home to see what had happened.

Maybe we've just run out of debates? There aren't that many
topics to discuss that we haven't already.

And I also think the decline (bit of a strong term maybe) of VR is because of the lack of strong characters who used to really get people going (not in an erotic sense, I might add...well...maybe one or two)

Let's fight people. *gets out Spandex catsuit*

And then we'll probably have a thread like this in a few months saying, 'Ooh, isn't VR a nasty place now? I remember when it was a lovely place to go...'

I hate you people who say they miss fighting. Whenever I have done so it's the majority who slap on the wrists and give a "bad Chris, don't do it again". I've witnessed the same with Tongs and many other. You lot aren't missing the fighting at all, it's just the easy excuse.

I will say, however, that it's not really any specific person/board. It's more that the whole community is pretty weak. No-one seems to know what's going on in any other's life unless they're on each others MSN buddy list. The people that are friends talk to just their friends and no-one else. There's backstabbing, bitching, the lot. And because of that, it's heavily moderated.

Not so. There's a large number of regulars who have Livejournal and while I can't speak for everyone, my entries aren't filtered so that VR members can't read what I say. I lock most of my entries due to non-VRers reading things about them. If I had any issues with you guys, I'd say it to your faces. Yes, the "wackyness" does get on my (considerably large) tits, but I'm sure my constant innuendo has annoyed a lot of people. I don't really bother as much any more as I've grown up. Yeah, I'm still the Smut Queen, but I've matured.

As for lack of posting, yes, people are busy with work and exams, but in my free time, I've felt that I've had nothing to say that isn't about my own life which is why I live on Livejournal. I don't want to use VR as my personal blog and bore you all to tears. I don't reply to much because nothing really grabs my attention anymore. There does look like a lot of being nice for the sake of being nice. I've never been one for that. If I don't like what someone says, I say it. Aside from not feeling like replying, I've stopped myself from making bitchy replies to threads. I don't like that side of myself. There's been a few things that have been posted that I really want to reply "God, get a f*cking grip on yourself!" to, but I've restrained myself. Maybe it's work making me bitter *shrugs*

VR lacks the pep it once had for me. I can't explain it really. Maybe it's because the people I used to talk to aren't around as much. Maybe it's because work has consumed my life and I'm more self absorbed.

"It's not that I care what people think, I care what my friends think. And VR seems full of people who claim to be your friends while not actually getting you.
I don't care what random person on the street thinks, but I care what my friends think."

That's the best way I could sum up the whole two-faced thing. I knew what I meant. I'm not posting coherently so bear with me.

Whoever said that everyone hated Brutally Honest- I think it was one of the best bits of VR of old. Kind of like this thread, bit less guarded and more opinionated and vitriolic in some cases, not afraid to say what everyone was thinking. It's what VR needs. Not everyone at everyone's throat, just a bit less of the stale general chatter and private jokes. One of the things that grates me about VR these days is that people are just soooo nice. I like a bit of controversy.

Basically, I'm just mangling and regurgitating what everyone's already said. VR's not bad, it's just different. Not in a fantastic way, but everything's not lost. Andy is will sort us all out, pretty sure.

Also, VR needs Fee. She rocks. Not just saying this because she might be watching. Well, mostly.

Thanks everyone.

However, stop whinging. Seaneen wanted the original thread to be a list of things the moderators can do to liven things up. So far all you've put together is:

New Thread: Someobody hates somebody else, lets throw tantrums

and

Bring back Brutally Honest.

Both ideas suck. The first idea is just childish, and you'll all get bored of that within a week. I'm bored of the very idea now.

Secondly, brutally honest? Aye right! I started a tongue in cheek thread on this Vr column about VR love, and half of you huffed and didn't actually get the point! The old membership of VR did the EXACT same with Brutally Honest. I swear, if any thread was as harsh as BH was, and it was on this current VR and it's membership, we'd have tears and huffs everywhere.

What do you want DONE on VR to liven it up? Don't whinge about what's wrong, tell the mods and us column mods what you'd like to see.

You've done well to identify the problems though, but really, we've covered all the bases on that one.
